Knife Attack Test

At ClearShield we take the threat of a knife attack very seriously… Australian Standard 5041 requires all class 3 type security door and screen products to pass the AS4483 knife attack test. This test requires our stainless steel security screen to be subjected to repetitive knife attacks without penetration of the mesh or screen greater than 150mm after three slashes of a knife.

We put ClearShield’s security screen doors to the ultimate test and contracted the services of Azuma design Testing Facility NSW (N.A.T.A accredited) to test ClearShield well beyond the standard requirements. The results were impressive to say the least!

ClearShield’s domestic grade security screen withstood over 20 cycles of the AS4483 test and still did not fail.

Test Method / Performance Requirement:

AS 4483 that forms part of AS5041.

The Knife Shear Test as specified in AS4483 involves a Stanley trimming knife to be dragged along the screen material 3 times along the same line of pass without leaving a penetration longer than 150mm.

Product Description:

Result:

The ClearShield screen material withstood over 60 passes of the knife. This result equates to the screen withstanding over 20 cycles of the KNIFE SHEAR TEST as specified in AS4483.

Repetitive Impact

The Australian standard for security doors and security screens requires all security doors and screens to comply with AS5041. Part of the physical test for this standard requires the security door or security screen to withstand 5 impacts of an impact ball at 100 Joules of energy.

Along with the team at Azuma design Testing Facility NSW we put ClearShield’s Ultra-Strength security screen design to the test well beyond the requirements of the standard. Another outstanding result!

Test Method / Performance Requirement:

The Impact test is as specified in AS 5041 ‘Methods of test’ for Security screen doors and window grilles. Impact loads of 100 Joules were applied to the test sample (The prescribed load required by the test standard – AS 5041)

Result:

The test sample withstood 50 x 100 Joule impacts. This result equates to 10 cycles of the DYNAMIC IMPACT TEST as specified in Australian Standard Test.
Extreme Repetitive Impact

Further extreme testing proves the strength of ClearShield…….

In this test, ClearShield was subjected to 15 impacts of 500 joules of energy. This equates to 5 times the impact energy used in the Australian standard test for security doors and screens. ClearShield remained unbroken after 15 impacts from the test rig.

Test Method / Performance Requirement:

The test sample was subjected to multiple impact loads of 500J (5 times the load required by the test standard – AS 5041)

Result:

The test sample withstood not just one but 15 x 500 Joule impacts. After 15 impacts testing was stopped. The screen material remained secure in the frame.

TEST REPORTS

1. Repetitive Impact Test
Designed not only to comply to the AS 5041 Australian security doors and security screens standards, the core technology of Clearshield passed the impact test with flying results. Partnered with the Azuma Design Testing Facility NSW, we placed our doors over the 5 impacts of 100 Joules requirements to 50 repetitive impacts at 100 Joules. The strength of Clearshield held up the impact, surpassing the required threshold for 10 times. Our test video can be view from our video gallery to experience the extreme capability of our product. ClearShield has passed this test.
The effects of a pull attack against a security screen door or security screen are simulated by allowing a direct force to be applied to the test specimen via a cable. The forces are applied at different angles and different levels depending upon the force location.ClearShield has passed this test.
Marked as a Class 3 type security door and screen on Australian Standard 5041, Clearshield passed the AS4483 Knife Attack Test with impressive results. Required to withstand three knife shearing without a penetration greater than 150mm, our partners at Azuma Design Testing Facility placed our product to the extreme test with over 60 knife shears on our domestic grade screen. The success accounts to 20 times over the standard requirements, further demonstrating the ability against knife attacks compared to typical mesh products. The effects of a jemmy attack against a security screen door or security screen are simulated by allowing a standardised narrow-bladed lever to be inserted against the locking, fastening and hinging points and a turning force is applied to those points via the lever. ClearShield has passed this test.

This test puts ClearShield on par with many high performance solar-control glazing systems and shading products! What this means is that ClearShield will allow you to leave your doors and windows open, creating a burglar resistant barrier with optimum visibility and substantially improved Energy Efficiency

This is a break-through in material strength engineering and has been tested and passed to all relevant Australian standards. Using high grade stainless steel, ClearShield screens are finished in a strong and durable powder coated black finish. A matrix of tiny holes measuring 2.0mm in diameter are stamped through a solid sheet of stainless steel, no mosquitoes will get in through the tiny holes of the screen.
As built with stainless-steel sheet, all Clearshield products are approved under Bushfire Standard AS3959 for bushfire areas. Our emergency exit screens can be used as bushfire screens as well to protect the entire window against security threats while allowing instant escapes in case of an emergency. Our bushfire shutters comply with part 3.7 of AS3959 (BAL-40) as an affordable and subtle alternative to conventional roll-down fire shutters.
